Logan, at this branch had the highest level of service. Processed applications, gave options for other loans, and step by step process on how to move my account from Wells Fargo. With a same day meeting to complete all processes. Mountain America hires the best people.

      Response from the owner

Thanks for the glowing review, Todd! We'll be sure to pass your kind words on to Logan and the Sandy team!

When I opened my account one of the perks was free checks. Apparently they took that benefit away a couple of years ago, which I wasn't aware of. I was unhappy about them changing their benefits from what I signed up for. I went into the Sandy branch to talk about it. There was no recognition, much less an apology, for changing benefits on me. In fact the attitude by the employee was that I was at fault for not reading the notice they say they sent telling me about the change in benefits. The branch manager was in her office and couldn't be bothered to talk to me about it. So I give them a low rating for 1. Breaking our agreement (not the fault of this local branch) and 2. Poor treatment of a customer by the employees at this branch. I would recommend looking elsewhere for a credit union which I will be doing.

      Response from the owner

Hi, Richard. We are sorry to learn of the negative experience you recently had with us. We appreciate you taking the time to provide you feedback and we will be sure to pass it along to the branch management and services team so we can make improvements in the future. We are sorry to hear that you are looking for a new credit union and would love the opportunity to do what ever we can to retain you as a member. If there is anything we can do for you, please email us directly at [email protected].

I established a HELOC here a few months ago. The process to establish it was a little weird since it was a combination of talking with a centralized underwriter on the phone and going in-person to the branch, but the two reps that helped were nice enough. The time it took to establish seemed slow (around 2 weeks) in this modern time, but it did get completed just barely in time for my needs. I always knew that my reason for the HELOC might fall thru, and that I might not use it at all. And that's exactly what happened. And I knew they would charge $220 if I closed the HELOC within 2 years. I'm now taking care of some other finance matters and need to close the HELOC, so I went to the branch today on my lunch break (once again, the dumb requirement to show up in-person). The rep that was assisting me was nice, but surprised me with another $74 fee on top of the $220 fee. She made token attempts to apologize for the surprise and said she'd provide feedback to the other rep, but it was clear that she was not sincere in either case. I asked her to waive the extra fees, but she claimed she could not. And best part is that she couldn't take payment at her desk, so in order to pay their $300 in fees to close an account that I never used, I had to go stand at the back of the teller line and wait. By the time I got to the front, the teller said "I'm new, and I'll have to go get help." By this time I had to leave to get to another appt. So I left having accomplished absolutely nothing. I clearly didn't leave enough time to get this taken care of, but they certainly weren't doing anything to make it easier or faster for me either. I will hopefully get back there soon to close the HELOC. I'll also close their required savings account, and will never look back. How do brick and mortar banks and credit unions stay in business? So many silly requirements, lack of concern for speed, and ridiculous fees. Good luck staying in business when all your senior customers have passed their inheritances to a younger generation.

I was apprehensive at first when I went to Mountain America for my banking needs as I have been with another institution for a very long time. I was used to there ways and policies and could not fathom changing to another institution, or believing that anything could be better. OH COULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SO WRONG! When I did go into this location my fiance and I opened up a joint account with a wonderful and extremely helpful person named "Monique Strootman". I cannot give enough praise to her for helping me get out of my big headed, thought I knew it all bubble. Not only did she make opening this account very easy and quick she was helpful in answering any questions I had and listening to my experiences from my personal accounts institution. By the time we were leaving I was wondering why I did not listen to my lovely fiance long ago when she had told be I should transfer my funds and make a new personal account at mountain America. By the end of that day I not only made our joint account but a personal one as well. I moved a majority of my money into my new account at Mountain America. She explained so many things that I never could quite get my mind around policies whys from the smaller institution I have been with for nearly 15 years. Not only that but she called me the next morning to tell me that she had gotten approval for a very reasonable, and much need amount for a traditional credit card which I was never able to do at the other institution. I love the friendliness not only of this particular staff but whenever I have gone in since, the tellers, and everyone in the branch greets you kindly and it just feels like my money is safe and in good hands. Not to mention all of the side percs they offer; 750$ overdraft allowance, amazing phone application where you can control your accounts as well as external accounts. I could go on and on but to wrap up this long review il say, TAKE A CHANCE AND STEP OUT OF YOUR CONFORT ZONE! Go to Mountain America dont stay at one place just because they gave you a loan one time and assume all credit unions are the same because they deffinetly are NOT!

Typically this has been a decent bank - easy deposits/withdraws, friendly staff. But they had a security update recently and cancelled my debit card with no explanation. Now I can not access my money and their only solution is to come into a branch but I moved out of state. Requests for calls back have been ignored. Can't even close the account. This CU is fine enough, but if you need to travel or move then I would absolutely not recommend.

      Response from the owner

Thank you for the feedback, sorry to hear that you had a negative experience. At Mountain America we strive to take your concerns and turn them into actionable improvements. This afternoon around 5pm I went into the branch to deposit multiple checks, close to 20. This is something I do on a monthly basis, each time I do it the tellers always like to tell me about mobile banking & the mobile deposit capability. That is nice but you have to take a picture of the front & back of the check & enter the amounts which can be cumbersome & time consuming when you have many checks to go through so I prefer to go to the branch. Today the teller was condescending to me she was telling me about this feature, & told me that her line has been long all afternoon & that I could have just done them in line while I was waiting. To me it was rude & made me feel like I was inconveniencing her to have her help me deposit my checks. Frankly it seems odd & self destructive for the tellers to be pushing the mobile deposit as hard as they do, after all don't they need jobs? Pretty soon we can probably do away with them & just have more ATM's outside, especially if they're forcing the mobile deposit on members. For me as a small business owner I have enjoyed Mt. America because they usually seem to care, big enough to have solutions to my problems but small enough to still treat me like a friend or family member. Now with all their locations, branding their name on the expo center & constructing a HUGE office building for a new corporate office I may as well be dealing with a large bank. I may be done & will consider moving to the new Zions bank being built near my home in Sandy.

We have been with MACU for a very long time. Our latest visit was a continuing example of great service. Jake, the teller who dealt with our latest transaction was friendly, courteous, totally competent and efficient, like all of our previous interactions.

I opened my Mountain America Credit Union account whenever I lived in Sandy, Utah. I now currently reside in Lubbock Texas (past 6 years). There is no MACU bank branch here. But I would not change where I bank for anything! I've dealt with a lot of local banks, local credit unions, federal credit unions, national banks and global banks. But for some reason, Mountain America Credit Union is able to give me a level of service and options over the phone that 99% of banks cannot even give you face-to-face inside of a branch. This is why I choose to continue to bank with them all electronically and over the phone. If you're looking for a bank to call home, look no further, you have definitely found home!

      Response from the owner

Thanks so much for your glowing review, Bruce! We’re so happy you have found your home with us!
