George Griswold1I have been a customer of VACU since 2016. I closed my accounts today. There are several negatives working with the bank: 1. Upon opening the accounts, I had to pay for checks. A friend of mine (who was my recommendation to join VACU) received free checks. If you want to give free checks to some, you should give it to everyone. But this is a perfectly good way to make some customers feel less valuable than others right at the beginning. 2. Online interfaces are woefully lacking and technology standards lag behind competing banks. No 2-factor authentication to log in. Mobile app fails to keep a session. 3. Knowledge of federal rules is lacking and the individuals here are incorrect on many important rules. I managed an HSA here, but every time I made a deposit, there was mass confusion from the tellers and the manager. Always ended up having to call higher ups and to get the deposit approved. Once, the HSA account was even closed and had to be corrected, even though I had clearly just wanted to withdraw and deposit. 4. On the topic of HSAs, their fees are 25$ a year (upfront), and there is a $25 transfer fee to another institution. Your money basically just loses value in their HSA account. 5. 1099s are late. It is 1/31 today, the day the government requires them to be delivered. I was told they will eventually be mailed. 6. Upon closing my account, on 1/31, I was told I forfeit my interest for the month. Wow, sounds like theft to me. Regardless, this is my poor experience at this bank, and I will be letting everyone I know in the area that this is not a place to be trusted with your money. You be the judge.
